Penedo da Saudade

It was the place where D. Pedro came to mourn the death of his beloved Inês, and it was he who nicknamed him "Penedo da Saudade", it was formerly known as the 'Windstone' (Pedra dos Ventos"

Even today is the nook that all lovers love, because it is a contemplative and serene place, and offer a unique view of the city and the Mondego River.

In this beautiful garden viewpoint we find plaques with verses of former students and writers - the oldest dating from 1855 - highlighting the Courses Room and the Poets Retreat. Also to be highlighted are the busts of the poet António Nobre, the writer Eça de Queirós and also the statue of the pedagogue João de Deus.
