The Santo Inácio Zoo is the largest green zoo park in northern Portugal, located in Avintes, Vila Nova de Gaia and just 10 minutes from the city centre of Oporto.

With little more than a decade of existence, it became already, in the Zoo of reference of the Great Oporto. A unique opportunity to learn and see far more closely the dreaded Snakes, the swift Birds of Prey, the skilled swimmers Penguins and much, much more!

This extraordinary space was born from the dream of a family in love with nature, belonging to the Aveleda group.

It was inaugurated in 2000, with the aim of bringing the community closer to Nature and Wildlife, alerting to the growing importance of the Conservation of the Species of Fauna and Flora from all over the world.

In 2014, the Saint Ignatius Zoo joined the Thoiry Group, strengthening the movement in favor of Nature Conservation.

Saint Ignatius Zoo’s mission is to raise awareness for wildlife protection and animal welfare. All the animals received in their space live in environments according to their origins, so it is possible to see their natural behaviors.

The grid and noble mission of the Zoo of Saint Ignatius is related to the Conservation of Nature, especially of the Species that are threatened of Extinction.

In partnership with the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA), the Santo Inácio Zoo participates in more than 40 European Programmes for the Conservation of Endangered Species, such as the Asian Lions, the Snow Panthers, Humboldt penguins, cheetahs, camel-Asians, pygmy hippos, and so on.
